i like my 51's better than these, but they are a fine second pair.check the 51's for cheaper, better sound.
The sound is excellent, definitely high-end with good bass (Sony earphones always have a lot of bass). Sure, for the original $99 I would have gone for another brand and model (Shure SE-110 that I loved and lost, and which were superior for $99), but at $39, I really don't see which earphones offer such outstanding quality.
This one is better. I have had a lot of different models over the years, including different lower to mid-end Sony models: MDR-EX32, MDR-EX55, MDR-EX56.
I am writing this review keeping in mind that I paid $39 total for the earphones. I listen to mp3 songs in high quality (320 kbps, non-variable rate) and these earphones give me all I need in terms of quality and richness of the sound.
I am very happy. I was amazed to get them at that price, since they were at $99 at Best Buy the day I purchased them online on Amazon.
I used them primarily with my mp3 player.
While not comparable to professional studio, large driver headphones, these are great sounding. After several near loses, I finally lost one of the tips that fit the phones directly into your ear. Sound quality with these earphones is very good. If there are any aspects of them that I would consider an actual negative, it would fall into 2 categories. The Sony MDR-EX90LPs are a simply great earphones.
I guess in some ways it is helpful but I think it causes just as many issues as it solves.Overall, if you looking for a "buy" or "don't buy" rating, put me squarely in the "buy" column. The other thing that bugs me sometimes is the way the chord is run, with the short left ear chord and the long right side chord. The rubber ear tips and the offset chord. And seeing that there are already newer models of these earphones, you may want to order replacement tips when you order the earphones themselves, just so you know you will have them when you need them. These match well with portable mp3 players, as they seem to almost make compressed music formats sound a little more even. But I had the tip fall off a few times before I actually lost it, so I would say you will want to be ready for this event to occur. But the full range is quite nicely balanced, with no part of the spectrum overpowering another. Again, this was after several years of use and I am quite careful with mine.
I've owned these for approximately 3 years (they were $90 when I bought them) at the time of this writing and mine are still going strong. After a little searching, I was able to fine replacement ones that seem to be working just as well. When I lost the one ear piece and thought I was going to have to buy a new set of earphones, I had no intention of looking for anything other than these again. Mids and highs are excellently reproduced, and bass is quite strong, but slightly weaker than the other two. I've used mine with my iPod and MacBook Pro since I got them and they have performed dutifully on a nearly daily basis.
I haven't used these directly but have gotten reviews 2nd hand from the person I bought them for.
Anyhow, GET these. What a pain. I've had earphones in the past that sounded great, but kept coming loose.
I am really enjoying them. That's tolerable, though considering the sound quality, and the fact that these earphones STAY in your ears. I just received these headphones today, and the sound is spectacular.
They won't fall out, which is another plus with me. You won't regret it. They cut out the outside noise a little as well.
The only slight issue would be that the inside of my ears are a tiny bit sore from them.
